Acknowledging the Importance of Technology in SMEs

A recent study revealed that a significant 39% of SME decision makers would contemplate leaving their position if they were not equipped with the right tools to effectively carry out their duties. Additionally, nearly a third expressed dissatisfaction with their leadership team’s slow response to keeping up with the evolving technology needs of their employees.

These findings stem from the 2019 Digital Business Report conducted by Advanced, which aimed to assess whether employees were provided with the necessary tools to enhance their productivity. The report emphasized the importance of leaders collaborating with their staff to identify areas that could benefit from updated technology solutions.

However, implementing these changes is not without its challenges. A separate survey conducted by Advanced revealed that one in five SME leaders constantly feel pressured, with 48% attributing much of this stress to a lack of time.

Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Productivity

Gordon Wilson, CEO of Advanced, highlighted the concerning statistic that only 31% of respondents cited productivity as a driving factor behind their organization’s adoption of new technology. Wilson emphasized the pivotal role technology plays in boosting productivity and addressing work-life balance issues by streamlining processes and eliminating time-consuming tasks.

Wilson underscored the need for employees to recognize the value of utilizing digital tools to enhance productivity. To achieve this, leaders must formulate a comprehensive digital strategy that encompasses change management and considers the diverse backgrounds and skillsets of their workforce.

Despite the challenges, smaller businesses have the advantage of agility, unburdened by outdated systems and processes. Wilson encouraged SME leaders to leverage this flexibility to outperform larger organizations and spearhead the adoption of new technologies to drive productivity.
